
Matt was born and raised in Dalton, Georgia. He attended Auburn University, where he graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1992. After running, and eventually selling, a family business in 2001, he began a career in financial planning, later becoming a partner at Browne, Draper and Land in 2007. In September of 2022, Matt started his own firm, Stern Investments, which he operates with his longtime assistant, Denise Ambrose. They focus on individual financial management, retirement planning, and 401(k) administration.
During that same time, Matt also enjoyed a 33 year career in high school coaching and mentoring the youth of Northwest Georgia. In 2019, Matt was named the Atlanta Falcons High School Coach of the Year, as well as the 2019 Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year. In 2020, he was also named by USA Football as one of the Top 20 Most Influential High School Coaches in America.
Matt and his wife Amy have been married 31 years. They have three daughters and a son, two sons-in-law, and 1 yr old granddaughter. They are active members of Auburn Community Church and have been involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes for over 35 years.
